About the position

The Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC) is seeking an Assistant Director of Finance to join its Finance Department, which operates from the Pennsylvania Judicial Center in Harrisburg. This pivotal role is essential for supporting the Director of Finance and ensuring the smooth operation of the department, particularly during the Director's absence. The Assistant Director will be responsible for significant supervisory duties and will consult with and advise the State Court Administrator, directors, senior staff of non-state funded court entities, and various officials from the Executive branch on a wide range of financial and budgeting matters. The AOPC/Finance team consists of 18 staff members and manages a substantial budget of approximately $550 million, overseeing nearly 40 appropriations that include the administrative office, appellate courts, various Supreme Court committees, and grants. The Assistant Director will play a crucial role in maintaining continuity within the department and will be involved in managing large budgets and overseeing complex financial operations. This position requires a strong background in government finance and accounting, as well as experience in statutory reporting and compliance, including audits and financial reporting. Candidates for this position should possess a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, with a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation preferred. The role demands progressive experience in government finance or a related field, along with significant managerial or supervisory experience. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in managing large budgets and ensuring compliance with financial regulations. Residency is not a requirement for this position, making it accessible to a broader range of qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Director of Finance in daily operations and decision-making processes.
  • Ensure continuity of operations during the Director's absence.
  • Consult and advise the State Court Administrator and other senior officials on financial and budgeting actions.
  • Manage and oversee the department's budget and financial operations.
  • Supervise finance department staff and ensure effective team performance.
  • Coordinate statutory reporting and compliance, including audits and financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Progressive experience in government finance, accounting, or a related field.
