About the position

The Assistant Director of Firefighting Programs at the Illinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of various firefighting training programs. This role involves managing a team of Program Coordinators, Regional Representatives, Program Directors, Program Managers, and Lead Instructors to ensure the effective delivery of training to approximately 20,000 students annually. The position encompasses planning, coordination, execution of training, risk management, curriculum development, and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary advisor to the Director and Senior Associate Director for Academic Operations (SADAO) for the Firefighting Directorate.
  • Establish functional processes and procedures to support timely reports and communications to program coordinators and directors.
  • Advise on financial priorities and monitor budgets for firefighting programs.
  • Implement and enforce IFSI Policies and Procedures, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Manage the annual health questionnaire and face piece fit test program for instructors.
  • Lead and direct the operations of IFSI's firefighting programs, including education and training development.
  • Oversee curriculum development and ensure compliance with NFPA Standards.
  • Coordinate with leadership for training prop development and maintenance.
  • Manage the OSFM grant for course deliveries and equipment purchases.
  • Oversee planning and execution of IFSI annual training events.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree.
  • Course Completion of Instructor II or equivalency.
  • At least 25 years of fire service experience.
  • At least 15 years of Instructor employment with IFSI.
  • At least 10 years of experience as an IFSI Program Manager.
  • At least 2 years of experience as an IFSI Program Director.
  • Proven experience in implementing duties and responsibilities of an IFSI Program Director.
  • Solid understanding of IFSI's processes, procedures, and curriculum development.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree.
