About the position

The Assistant Director of Fleet Services is responsible for managing the Fleet Services Division of the City of Denton, overseeing all aspects of fleet operations including service, repair, acquisitions, and operational reporting. This role involves strategic planning, budget management, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations while enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of fleet services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Fleet Services Division, overseeing service, repair, acquisitions, and operational reporting.
  • Participate in the strategic planning process and assess operational effectiveness using measurable data.
  • Lead administrative matters related to fleet management including acquisition, maintenance, and disposal.
  • Oversee the Citywide Bulk Fuel program to ensure a seamless supply of fuel to the fleet.
  • Plan and manage day-to-day operations of assigned division workgroups, establishing safety measures and accountability procedures.
  • Analyze and evaluate programs to meet stakeholder needs and develop corrective actions for improvement.
  • Research and identify innovative ideas to enhance services within the Fleet Services Division.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure the division meets industry standards and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with stakeholders on fleet resource management and review service requests as needed.
  • Administer departmental contract management and support dispute resolution efforts.
  • Ensure operational procedures comply with City policy and applicable laws.
  • Monitor operational risks and implement mitigating measures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Project Management, Public Administration, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
  • Five years of experience in facilities management, fleet services, or related field.
  • Three years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and Local Government laws regarding fleet services.
  • Intermediate skill level with Microsoft Office 365 and other necessary software systems.
  • Strong data analysis and strategic planning skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in local government operations.
  • Knowledge of underground storage tank (UST) standards.
