About the position

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications is a pivotal role within our organization, aimed at enhancing our brand and outreach efforts in the non-profit sector. This position is designed for a creative and strategic marketer who is passionate about arts organizations and has a proven track record in developing and executing successful direct-to-consumer (DTC) marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate will be a master wordsmith, adept at crafting compelling messaging for fundraising campaigns and events, and will play a critical role in driving the success of our brand and programs. In this role, you will assist the Director of Marketing and Communications in developing and implementing an integrated marketing strategy that aligns with the organization's mission and goals. You will be responsible for promoting the organization's brand and voice through clear and effective messaging, conducting market research to inform strategies, and collaborating with the Development team on communications for fundraising appeals and events. Your expertise will be essential in producing omni-channel DTC marketing campaigns from inception to execution, ensuring that we stay ahead of industry trends and innovations. As a tech-savvy, digital-first self-starter, you will manage our website and social media presence, engage with our constituents, and produce weekly reports to track and analyze the performance of marketing initiatives. You will also supervise one employee or intern, providing guidance and support to help them grow in their roles. This position requires a strong understanding of the marketing mix, audience segmentation, and the ability to translate data into actionable insights that enhance customer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Marketing and Communications in developing and implementing an integrated marketing strategy.
  • Promote the organization's mission, brand, and voice through clear and compelling messaging.
  • Conduct market research and analyze data to inform marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Collaborate with the Development team on communications for fundraising appeals, collateral, and events.
  • Produce and implement omni-channel DTC marketing campaigns from start to finish.
  • Stay up-to-date on industry trends and innovations to continually improve marketing strategies and tactics.
  • Assist in managing the website (WordPress).
  • Continuously seek new and innovative ways to promote books and authors to reach wider audiences.
  • Submit news and events to community partners and business organizations as needed.
  • Produce weekly reports to track and analyze performance on marketing initiatives, using data to make informed decisions and adjustments.
  • Drive the organization's social presence and engage constituents on social media channels.
  • Develop copy for the organization's digital and print publications.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop effective communication strategies and ensure brand consistency.
  • Supervise one employee and/or intern.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience as a digital content/marketing professional, with a focus on upper-funnel brand marketing.
  • Experience working across the full DTC marketing funnel and across the marketing mix including online and offline channels.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to translate quantitative and qualitative data into a better customer experience.
  • Experience with audience-level segmentation and marketing strategies.
  • Keen understanding of the AIDA marketing model and supporting strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills, including oral and written with sensitivity to audience, tone, and nuance.
  • Demonstrated success in crafting effective marketing copy for major donor communications and marketing pieces.
  • Experience in conceiving, developing, and implementing omnichannel marketing and communications campaigns, preferably for arts programs.
  • Significant competency in social media strategy and management.
  • Knowledge about new media and the ability to brainstorm innovative ideas to engage constituents.
  • Ability to manage priorities and function independently as well as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task and effectively prioritize.
  • Ability to be flexible to changing priorities and be collaborative.
  • Solid understanding of how to track, measure, and report on campaign performance and effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated success in developing search-optimized content for web, including landing pages and digital ads.
  • Experience managing email marketing campaigns and writing effective email copy.
  • Solid understanding of photography, video, and graphic design skills (Adobe Suite: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, or Lightroom, Premiere Pro).
  • Experience with Digital Marketing, Content Management, and Social Media Management tools.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MailChimp and Google Analytics.
  • Familiarity with Meta Business Manager and other relevant tools.
  • Ability to relocate to New York, NY before starting work.
