About the position

The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications at South Dakota State University plays a vital role in enhancing the university's marketing initiatives and digital presence. This position involves leading marketing campaigns, managing social media strategies, and collaborating with various teams to promote the university's brand effectively. The successful candidate will be part of the leadership team within the University Marketing and Communications department, contributing to the university's mission of access and education.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and collaborate on marketing campaigns with external marketing firms and third-party vendors.
  • Support internal marketing campaigns for the university's colleges and departments by identifying target audiences and utilizing appropriate channels.
  • Develop and manage content strategies for the university's website and social media channels.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to create and guide creative development for print, digital, and video assets.
  • Provide resources and training to university social media managers.
  • Create and manage content for Rabbit Food, the university's digital newsletter and blog for prospective students.
  • Maintain an editorial calendar in collaboration with the Office of Admissions.
  • Track and analyze the success of marketing campaigns and social media engagement.
  • Analyze customer insights, consumer trends, market analysis, and marketing best practices to build successful strategies.
  • Evaluate and recommend marketing strategies based on new and evolving technologies.
  • Supervise and oversee the Assistant Coordinator for Digital Media and the Digital Content Creator positions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or a related field completed by start date.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience working as part of a marketing and communications team.
  • Experience developing and implementing targeted, strategic marketing plans and campaigns that are creative and metrics driven.
  • Experience with multiple social media platforms and managing comprehensive social media campaigns that produce positive results.
  • Proficiency with social media platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, including word processing and basic knowledge of spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of HTML and experience with popular content management systems.
  • Experience researching and accessing information online.
  • Branding and marketing campaign familiarity.
  • Excellent copy writing and editing skills.
  • Valid driver's license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
