About the position

The Assistant Director of Marketing will play a crucial role in advancing the mission and goals of the University by developing comprehensive communication and media strategies that encompass local, national, and international media. This position may also serve as a spokesperson for the President and the University, ensuring that the institution's voice is effectively communicated across various platforms. The Assistant Director will provide direction and oversight for the University's internal and external communication efforts, functioning as the institution's Communication Officer. In this role, the Assistant Director will be responsible for planning, evaluating, and executing initiatives that support the Marketing Director and the President's office. This includes managing strategic communication plans for the University and collaborating closely with the Director of Marketing, Leadership Cabinet, and other stakeholders on sensitive matters that require discretion and sound judgment. The Assistant Director will work to preserve and protect the reputation of the University while ensuring the well-being of students, faculty, and staff. Additionally, the Assistant Director will support the Director of Marketing in crisis communications, coordinate internal and external communications, and manage media relations. This includes responding to media inquiries, proactively sharing information with internal stakeholders, and tracking media reports related to the University. The Assistant Director will also participate in university and system organizational activities, build and maintain strong community relationships, and ensure compliance with University policies and procedures. The role requires a commitment to enhancing the institutional branding initiatives that promote the University’s image and recognition in the community, ensuring timely production and distribution of press releases and supporting materials.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, evaluates and executes University and foundation initiatives.
  • Supports and manages strategic communication plans for the University.
  • Works closely with the Director of Marketing and Leadership Cabinet on sensitive matters.
  • Preserves and protects the reputation of the University and the well-being of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Supports the Director of Marketing in Crisis Communications.
  • Coordinates with internal and external communications and media relations.
  • Responds to media inquiries and shares information proactively with internal stakeholders.
  • Manages and tracks media reports on the University and coordinates media access to campus.
  • Participates in University and identified system organizational activities.
  • Builds and maintains strong community relationships with elected officials, agencies, organizations, and community groups.
  • Develops and maintains an information network with colleagues in higher education.
  • Ensures compliance with University policies and procedures among staff.
  • Enhances the image and recognition of the University through branding initiatives.
  • Produces and distributes press releases and supporting materials in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Five years of related experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of digital communications.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Ability to speak with confidence and poise in various settings.
  • Skilled in writing for social media.
  • Working knowledge of digital photography and videography.
  • High levels of integrity, accuracy, diplomacy, and decision-making skills.
