About the position

The Assistant Director of Operations (ADO) at the Health Systems Analytics Research Center (HSARC) plays a crucial role in supporting research initiatives aimed at enhancing health services delivery, outcomes, and equity through data-driven methodologies and interdisciplinary collaboration. The ADO is tasked with overseeing program activities, managing staff and budgets, and ensuring that operations align with the strategic objectives of the Center. This position serves as the primary contact for Principal Investigators regarding various administrative units and is primarily focused on managing post-award grant and contract activities, providing logistical support to investigators, and facilitating the implementation and evaluation of research activities.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor program activities and ensure alignment with strategic goals.
  • Manage staff and budgets associated with research initiatives.
  • Serve as the point-of-contact for Principal Investigators with Tulane's Research Administration Unit.
  • Manage post-award grant and contract activities, including establishing subcontracts and consultancy agreements.
  • Provide logistics support to investigators, including project purchasing and asset management.
  • Process subcontract invoices and payments.
  • Plan project meetings and events.
  • Hire and manage staff and Research Assistants.
  • Handle travel and expense reporting and reconciliation.
  • Purchase and track participant incentives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Health Policy, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Three years of experience in research administration or grant management in a public health or academic setting.
  • Experience with research project management.
  • Knowledge of federal funding mechanisms (e.g., NIH, CDC, AHRQ).
  • Knowledge of financial principles, especially sponsored research budgeting and monitoring.
  • Understanding of academic research administration, including grant management activities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Effective leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Public Health, Health Services Research, Health Policy, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with public health research activities.
  • Experience with Cayuse, Grants.gov, Concur, SciQuest, and EBS/HCM.
  • Knowledge of research methodologies and data analytics.
  • Familiarity with project management techniques.
