About the position

The Assistant Director of Physical Security Systems and Project Management at St. John's University plays a crucial role in overseeing the functionality of all critical security systems and projects across the university's campuses. Reporting directly to the Director of Physical Security Systems and Human Services Operations, this position is responsible for managing a team that includes the Technical Support Specialist, the PS Safety Systems Analyst, the Payroll Analyst, and student workers assigned to the physical security team. The Assistant Director will be instrumental in developing both short and long-term physical security roadmaps, continuously assessing the physical security program, including the parking program, to identify weaknesses and ensure adherence to industry best practices. This role requires collaboration with senior leadership to develop remediation plans and manage the technology expense budget effectively. In addition to strategic planning, the Assistant Director will assist in project management, overseeing the implementation of numerous projects each year that involve installations and upgrades to security systems. This includes maintaining project timelines and budgets while mitigating risks to the university community. The role also involves application management and equipment maintenance, working closely with the Technical Support Specialist to ensure the operational effectiveness of various security systems, including access control and video management systems. The Assistant Director will serve as a liaison between different university departments and manage vendor relationships to support the Physical Security Program. The position also encompasses asset management and quality assurance, requiring regular audits of security systems to ensure their functionality and accuracy. The Assistant Director will supervise a team, providing direction and support to ensure the successful execution of the department's objectives. This role is essential for maintaining a safe and secure environment for the university community, aligning with St. John's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee functionality of all critical security systems and projects across all University campuses.
  • Assist in developing short/long term physical security roadmap by assessing the physical security program and identifying weaknesses.
  • Coordinate with Public Safety senior leadership to develop remediation plans and manage technology expense budgets.
  • Assist in project management by initiating, planning, implementing, monitoring, and closing project initiatives.
  • Maintain project-related documentation and communications for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Work with the Technical Support Specialist on the operational aspects of various security systems.
  • Coordinate installation and maintenance of physical security infrastructure, including card readers and surveillance cameras.
  • Initiate and maintain working relationships with colleagues from all SJU business units.
  • Manage vendor relationships that support the Physical Security Program.
  • Maintain accurate accounts of security system assets and conduct regular audits for quality assurance.
  • Supervise the Technical Support Specialist, PS Safety Systems Analyst, Payroll Analyst, and student workers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or related field from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience in Project Management with progressive responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and/or certifications such as PMP/CSPM.
  • Extensive knowledge and usage of Lenel OnGuard, Kronos, Genetic Security Center, and other related software.
  • Ability to multitask and perform under pressure.
