About the position

Join us as an Assistant Director of Reinsurance Finance to take your Reinsurance career to the next level with a global market leader. This role is responsible for managing the reinsurance finance and controllership area. The individual hired will oversee a global cross-functional team of resources. Specific areas of responsibility include but are not limited to: internal and external reinsurance operationalization and associated financial booking of reinsurance, managing operationalization of large complex reinsurance programs, broker/reinsurer reporting including statements/bordereau, and financial reporting (GAAP/STAT, Schedule F etc.). You will work closely with the financial controls unit, internal and external audit on reinsurance, and partner closely with FP&A to work on reinsurance budgeting, forecasting, actuals, and other analytics. You will be responsible for key reinsurance finance processes and associated controls, prioritizing and addressing various broad and individual projects, process improvement, and transformation initiatives as they arise. This position has visibility at the departmental senior management level and interacts with various levels of internal and external individuals and organizations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in reinsurance finance, with the ability to provide guidance and recommendations regarding optimal options and solutions to new and existing issues by leveraging knowledge of existing constraints. Responsibilities

  • Manage the reinsurance finance and controllership area.
  • Oversee a global cross-functional team of resources.
  • Operationalize large complex reinsurance programs.
  • Handle broker/reinsurer reporting including statements/bordereau.
  • Prepare financial reporting (GAAP/STAT, Schedule F etc.).
  • Collaborate with financial controls unit, internal and external audit on reinsurance.
  • Partner with FP&A on reinsurance budgeting, forecasting, actuals, and analytics.
  • Ensure key reinsurance finance processes and associated controls are maintained.
  • Prioritize and address various projects, process improvements, and transformation initiatives.
  • Provide guidance and recommendations on optimal options and solutions for issues.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an insurance/reinsurance company.
  • Extensive assumed and ceded reinsurance experience (3+ years); managing and leading others in a large scale organization.
  • Experience in managing and calculating reinsurance transactions on both assumed and ceded activity on Quota Share and Excess of Loss contracts preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of reinsurance including underwriting, claims, accounting, finance and associated processes, controls, and systems preferred.
  • Ability to interpret complex agreements and develop expertise of others.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting principles and practices and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Working knowledge of systems and technology utilized within area of responsibility.
  • Strong technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience interacting with executive management and external stakeholders.
  • Process transformation and control improvement experience is a definite plus.
  • 5+ years of experience managing a diverse team of over 10 resources distributed across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Bachelor's Degree (finance major preferred).
  • Advanced degree and/or designation in a related field a plus (i.e. ARe or CPCU designations, MBA, CPA, MS).
