About the position

The Assistant Director for Residence Life is a full-time, live-on position responsible for fostering community within residence halls and enhancing the quality of life for undergraduate students. This role involves regular interaction with students, including nights and weekends, and requires collaboration with other staff members to promote student development and learning programs. The position reports directly to the Director of Residence Life and includes various administrative and supervisory responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate hall openings and closings, oversee room furniture and key inventories, and maintain regular office hours.
  • Address and refer out maintenance concerns and participate in an 'on-call' duty rotation.
  • Assist with housing selection and handle other tasks related to residence hall management.
  • Assist with all aspects of student staff selection and lead student staff training exercises.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with student staff and administer employee discipline when necessary.
  • Serve on assigned committees and act as a resource for needed referrals.
  • Establish and maintain rapport with other Student Affairs staff.
  • Get to know residents individually and assure community building/programming by RA/RD staff.
  • Maintain hall security and attend RA/RD sponsored programs.
  • Proactively address roommate issues and assist in the adjudication of cases as required by Student Conduct.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Counseling, or related field strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of two years' experience within a residence life/housing position in a college/university setting required.
  • Knowledge of current practices in student development.
  • Ability to develop positive and proactive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Able to act independently and react appropriately in policy enforcement and crisis situations.
  • Possess excellent management and organizational skills; be adept with technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with GoogleDocs, NCBI, Banner, Adirondack, and/or Maxient is beneficial.
