About the position

The Assistant Director of Sports Medicine/Head Football Athletic Trainer at Alabama State University is responsible for providing comprehensive healthcare services to the Football sports program. This role involves injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and ensuring the overall health and safety of student-athletes. The position also includes assisting in the daily operations of the athletic training room and maintaining communication with team physicians regarding athletic health care.

Responsibilities

• Provide healthcare services for the Football sports program, including injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation.
• Assist in practice/event coverage and manage physician referrals and medical appointments for student-athletes.
• Maintain communication with team physician(s) regarding athletic health care and recommended treatment/rehabilitation for injuries.
• Assist coaching staff in evaluating and implementing sport-specific conditioning programs.
• Select and fit protective equipment, including taping, pads, or braces.
• Maintain athletic training equipment and monitor inventory.
• Organize and maintain student-athlete medical files.
• Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.
• Stay current with national and state certifications and licensure, following the NATA code of ethics.

Requirements

• Master's degree in athletic training, exercise science, or a closely related field.
• 4 years of post-baccalaureate athletic training experience or equivalent education and work experience.
• NATABOC Athletic Trainer certification.
• Eligible for Alabama state licensure.
• Current First Aid and CPR/AED certifications.
• Knowledge of NCAA and SWAC rules and regulations.
• Valid U.S. Driver's License with an insurable driving record.
