About the position

The Assistant Director of Student Outreach and Case Management at the University of Northern Colorado is responsible for coordinating and managing case management functions for students, particularly those experiencing mental health concerns. This role involves leading the Student Outreach and Case Management unit, supervising staff, and engaging with students to provide support and resources. The position plays a critical role in ensuring student safety and success through collaboration with various campus departments and the behavioral intervention team.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a case manager for students posing a risk of harm to themselves or others as part of the University CARE Team.
  • Provide outreach and communication for students in distress, assisting them in navigating university and community resources.
  • Track student data and maintain accurate case management records.
  • Communicate with faculty, staff, and families regarding significant mental health emergencies to facilitate student support.
  • Meet with students to determine appropriate referrals and support needed.
  • Consult with various campus departments regarding services and care for students of concern.
  • Manage major cases with multiple parties and perspectives without bias.
  • Work with campus partners on overlapping cases related to Title IX and other areas.
  • Utilize the Maxient database for case management and tracking.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate full-time Case Managers.
  • Implement strategic vision for Student Outreach and Case Management in alignment with institutional priorities.
  • Develop innovative procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of non-clinical case management.
  • Create systems to maintain accurate data and case files related to student concerns using Maxient.
  • Run Maxient analytic data and audit cases to support unit leadership and data needs.
  • Organize staff development and facilitate professional opportunities related to case management.
  • Support student academic success through collaborative relationships with university partners.
  • Create and deliver outreach and educational resources regarding case management and crisis response.
  • Fulfill other duties and committee work on behalf of the Dean of Students Office.
  • Serve in an on-call rotation and support on-call staff after hours when needed.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in student affairs, higher education administration, counseling, or behavioral/social science discipline, or a Bachelor's degree plus 3 years of experience.
  • Prior work experience in case management, mental health, crisis response, substance abuse, or higher education/student affairs.
  • Experience producing high-quality written communication.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience in a Dean of Students Office or related functional area of a university.
  • Experience in case and records management.
  • Experience supervising full-time staff.
  • Knowledge of developmental, psychological, and mental health issues of the college student population.
  • Experience in crisis management/risk assessment.
  • Prior experience with the Maxient system.
