About the position

The Assistant Director of System Administration - Enterprise Imaging at The University of Kansas Health System plays a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of patient care through strategic leadership within the assigned application unit. This position is responsible for fostering strong partnerships with key stakeholders to understand their business needs and translating these into effective application tools. The Assistant Director will deliver successful methodologies and expertise at the program level while also serving as a mentor to all levels of Systems Administration staff. In this role, the Assistant Director will provide effective leadership to the department, strategically identifying and communicating the critical success factors necessary for the team to support organizational goals. The individual will demonstrate advanced knowledge of technical skill sets and processes, ensuring that the department's role in achieving the organization's vision and goals is clearly communicated. The Assistant Director will manage responsibilities in a manner that aligns with departmental goals and will work collaboratively with the management team to resolve departmental issues. The position also involves overseeing the planning and execution of functional and system testing for projects, ensuring that business requirements are met without compromising system integrity. The Assistant Director will maintain current knowledge of system functionality, manage documentation for hospital-supported applications, and oversee system updates and compliance with regulatory requirements. Additionally, the role includes project management responsibilities, budget planning, and the development of training materials for new system administrators. Overall, this position is crucial for the effective management and continuous improvement of the hospital's application infrastructure and IT systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide effective leadership to the department/team.
  • Identify and communicate critical success factors necessary for departmental support of organizational goals.
  • Demonstrate advanced knowledge of unit/team technical skill sets and processes.
  • Communicate the organization's vision and goals effectively to the department.
  • Manage responsibilities to support departmental/team goals.
  • Collaborate with the management team to resolve departmental issues.
  • Administer and allocate organizational resources skillfully.
  • Plan and coordinate functional and system testing for projects and legacy systems.
  • Ensure adequate involvement of implementation teams, end-users, and vendors in the testing process.
  • Maintain current system configuration and training materials for the system.
  • Oversee documentation creation for hospital-supported applications.
  • Plan and schedule application and system updates or upgrades.
  • Coordinate with vendors, users, and other systems for updates.
  • Verify compliance of medical servers with vendor-approved updates.
  • Function as a project manager for projects without an assigned PMO manager.
  • Coordinate with PMO for time tracking and funding requests.
  • Review plans for data migration, consolidation, or archiving from legacy systems.
  • Manage system administration to ensure supportable versions and hardware components.
  • Assist in budget requests from system administrators.
  • Coordinate knowledge sharing and training sessions.
  • Develop training materials for new system administrators.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements for hospital-supported applications.
  • Create and update policies and procedures for compliance.
  • Assist in future planning and budget needs for hardware and applications.
  • Analyze existing application design for improvement recommendations.
  • Participate in annual budget planning for HITS/System Administration.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a leadership role required.
  • Project Management experience with large system implementation preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Business Administration preferred.
