About the position

The Assistant Director of the Indiana Memorial Union (IMU) is responsible for overseeing the facility operations of a historic and heavily utilized building on the Indiana University campus. This role involves managing maintenance, security, and emergency response processes, ensuring the upkeep of the IMU, which serves as a vital hub for student activities. The position requires effective leadership of maintenance and custodial teams, budget management, and collaboration with various departments to enhance the student experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee processes and projects related to building operations and maintenance.
  • Manage building operations including maintenance planning and emergency response.
  • Coordinate fire and life safety procedures with university personnel and external agencies.
  • Perform inspections to identify cleaning and property maintenance needs.
  • Participate in project development, budget management, and implementation.
  • Prepare estimates for repairs and ensure maintenance falls within budget.
  • Coordinate fulfillment of work orders for corrective action and routine maintenance.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory levels and equipment conditions through inspections.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for emergency situations.
  • Provide guidance to non-exempt staff and make recommendations for operational efficiency.
  • Lead a maintenance team of 6-8 staff members and a custodial team of 14-20 staff members.
  • Develop and manage the departmental annual expense budget.
  • Coordinate routine care and maintenance with food service operators.
  • Provide input on facility upgrade projects and work with contractors.
  • Engage with a diverse range of customers to meet their needs in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, inventory management, controls, facilities management, or related field.
  • 2 years of experience in business, inventory management, controls, facilities management, or related field.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University.
