About the position

The Assistant Director - Purchased Services and Laboratory at Universal Health Services, Inc. is responsible for leading all Supply Chain activities related to Purchased Services and Laboratory categories across 392 facilities. This role focuses on sourcing and standardization initiatives aimed at improving patient care and outcomes while reducing costs. The Assistant Director will provide oversight, mentorship, and support to team members and collaborate with various stakeholders to assess new technologies and manage contract processes effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain operational responsibility for supervision, performance evaluations, and direction of the team.
  • Participate in the development of staff responsible for Purchased Services and Laboratory initiatives.
  • Develop an annual sourcing calendar to guide staff regarding priorities and drive expense reduction.
  • Lead the identification and execution of standardization and utilization for clinical products and services.
  • Participate in the review, approval, and implementation of new products and technology presented by hospital clinicians.
  • Assist Corporate Clinical Leaders with product usage, approved contracted vendors, and cost information for product-related initiatives.
  • Manage the contract review process to validate terms, conditions, pricing, vendors, and approvals.
  • Lead sourcing opportunities for clinical products and services, including strategy development and vendor communication.
  • Monitor and assist facility Supply Chain and Clinical Leaders with corporate-wide product conversions.
  • Perform cost analysis, track conversion timelines, and savings progress.
  • Monitor compliance with contract commitments and develop tools to track utilization and key performance indicators (KPI).
  • Represent UHS on Group Purchasing Organization Steering Committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required plus 8-10 years of experience.
  • Experience in Purchased Services and Laboratory areas.
  • Detailed clinical and operations management experience required.
  • Broad knowledge of state of the art sourcing and contracting initiatives.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and mentor direct reports.
  • Strong leadership presence to evaluate business opportunities and major contracts.
  • Strong group dynamic skills to lead facility conversion teams.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication and analytical skills.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in MS Excel and Word.
