About the position

The Assistant Director, Residence Life at Texas A&M University - Texarkana is responsible for providing leadership and direction within the Residential Community. This role involves managing residential facilities, overseeing operations, and ensuring a safe and engaging environment for students. The Assistant Director also serves as a Campus Security Authority and a Campus Student Conduct Hearing Officer, and is required to live on campus.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the planning and execution of administrative operations for Residence Life.
  • Administers and supervises the total operation of a residence hall accommodating approximately 350-500 students.
  • Serves as the primary residence hall conduct hearing officer, overseeing conduct cases.
  • Recruits, selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates Residence Life Coordinators.
  • Institutes and advises a Residence Hall Association.
  • Manages major residential events such as move-in, move-out, and room consolidation.
  • Creates and maintains outreach opportunities and programs for student engagement and development.
  • Provides leadership and direction to subordinate staff and develops hall objectives.
  • Develops and oversees a residential education curriculum including various programs and training activities.
  • Assists in creating marketing and sales plans for the residence hall complex.
  • Reviews housing policies and develops a security program for emergency procedures.
  • Works with Resident Assistants to develop and implement residential programs.
  • Maintains accessibility and availability for customer service and student counseling.
  • Assures hall coverage by setting up evening and weekend duty schedules.
  • Establishes goals and objectives for the residence hall community in conjunction with the Department of Student Life.
  • Serves as campus administrator for housing software platforms.
  • Enters housing assignments and processes room changes and billing.
  • Collects and tracks maintenance request work orders.
  • Assists students and staff in personal and professional development.
  • Interprets and enforces department and university policies and procedures.
  • Manages recruitment, selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of Resident Assistants and student workers.
  • Develops staff and student development programming in the residence hall.
  • Establishes liaisons with university departments and serves on committees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Six years of related experience in residence life.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Knowledge of university housing operations.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with university/college housing (i.e., lived in, resident assistant, graduate assistant, etc.).
  • Master's degree in student personnel, higher education, counseling, or a related area.
  • Prior residence life professional experience.
  • Experience in staff supervision and administration of residence hall operations.
  • Experience working effectively with all student populations.
