About the position

The Assistant Director of Simulation Center Operations at UT Southwestern Medical Center plays a pivotal role in enhancing the operational efficiency and strategic initiatives of the Simulation Center. Reporting directly to the Director of Simulation Center Operations, this position collaborates closely with academic leaders, the Faculty Director of the Simulation Center, and key education and clinical faculty. The primary focus is to support strategic initiatives that enhance the national reputation of the Simulation Center, which is dedicated to utilizing state-of-the-art simulation technologies to improve educational quality and skill verification through integrated and proficiency-based curricula. The Simulation Center spans 49,000 square feet and includes various specialized areas such as Virtual Operating Rooms, Emergency Rooms, Intensive Care Units, and a Robotic Surgery suite, among others. The Assistant Director will manage operational, administrative, and financial functions, ensuring that all activities align with the institution's strategic priorities. This role requires a strong emphasis on fostering partnerships and collaboration across departments to ensure compliance and standardization in operations. In addition to overseeing daily operations, the Assistant Director will be responsible for faculty recruitment, procurement processes, and facilities management. The position also involves preparing and administering budgets for operational programs, managing staff performance, and developing strategic operational action plans. The Assistant Director will analyze operational and quality issues, facilitate stakeholder meetings, and present performance improvement opportunities to department leadership. This role demands a high level of service commitment and the ability to represent the department in various operational matters, ensuring a collaborative and data-driven approach to decision-making.

Responsibilities

  • Make decisions based on operations analysis as part of the leadership team.
  • Oversee daily operations of the department by coordinating effectively with all department groups, offices, divisions, and other parts of the institution.
  • Actively oversee activities that impact the department, ensuring compliance and standardization.
  • Oversee faculty recruitment processes.
  • Review procurement, business affairs, and supply chain processes and transactions.
  • Assist with facilities management.
  • Prepare and administer budgets for operational programs in collaboration with the Department Administrator.
  • Manage the staff performance management process.
  • Create and oversee the department's operational processes, procedures, policies, forms, and workflows.
  • Assist with the development of strategic operational action plans both internally and institutionally.
  • Manage operational and quality issues, analyze data, and facilitate stakeholder meetings to propose solutions for performance improvement.
  • Oversee departmental continuous process improvement projects, reporting databases, and quality metrics.
  • Provide strategic consultation and guidance to leadership on operational issues and evaluate business proposals.
  • Prepare contractual agreements and associated budgets, ensuring timely submission of proposals or agreements.
  • Commit to service excellence and product quality for internal and external customers.
  • Complete complex projects as requested and represent the Department Administrator for operational matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, healthcare administration, science, or a related field.
  • Four (4) years of experience with logistics and operations.
  • Two (2) years in a management role.
  • An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
