About the position

The Assistant Director Transportation (4006) - Bus Operations - Control Center at SEPTA is responsible for managing and overseeing the Bus Control Center. This role includes assuming the duties of the Director of Bus Transportation in their absence, ensuring consistent service levels, and coordinating with various departments to maintain operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

• Manage and oversee the Bus Control Center.
• Assume the duties of the Director of Bus Transportation during their absence.
• Evaluate service and adjust as necessary to re-establish consistent service levels.
• Ensure compliance with all policies of the Control Center and the Authority.
• Assign and direct supervisory personnel and emergency/support crews to maintain or restore scheduled service levels.
• Direct and instruct operating personnel in troubleshooting procedures to prevent or clear delays.
• Coordinate with Surface Operations and other departments to maintain required service levels.
• Communicate with customers, media, and other departments during service disruptions.
• Update computer and manual reference files, procedures, and schedules.
• Maintain attendance and re-certification records for bus control center managers.
• Manage activities during emergencies and service disruptions, recommending necessary changes to service.
• Comply with all safety and security policies and procedures.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of eleven (11) years of proven SEPTA Bus Transportation experience, with at least two (2) years in a Control Center environment.
• Ability to manage simultaneous responsibilities in a diverse and demanding work environment.
• Good written and oral communication skills, as well as analytical and people skills.
• Acceptable attendance, performance, and safety record.
• Basic computer knowledge for reports and bus movements.

Nice-to-haves

• Prior City Transit Division experience preferred.
