About the position

The Assistant Director of Transportation Planning at the City of Bellevue is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the Transportation Planning Division. This position involves strategic collaboration within the Transportation Department to achieve operational and planning goals, ensuring the development of a safe and efficient multi-modal transportation system. The Assistant Director will manage a team of 20 professionals, lead long-range transportation planning initiatives, and engage with the Transportation Commission to advise the City Council on transportation matters.

Responsibilities

  • Serve on the executive, management, and strategic teams to implement actions advancing the department's vision.
  • Oversee long-range transportation planning, traffic modeling, and capital programming.
  • Manage a staff of 20, including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Ensure the Transportation Commission effectively advises the City Council on transportation issues.
  • Prepare and present technical information to the Council and Commission in an understandable manner.
  • Lead innovation and continuous process improvement projects within the Planning Division.
  • Negotiate and administer contracts with consultants for transportation projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in transportation planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Eight or more years of progressively responsible experience in transportation planning, including management experience.
  • Certification as a Professional Transportation Planner (PTP) or AICP preferred.

Nice-to-haves
