About the position

The Assistant Electrical Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting project teams to develop exceptional designs for a diverse range of projects, including power, process, corporate, healthcare, airports, institutional, industrial, manufacturing, government, and military facilities. This position involves collaborating with the project team throughout the design and construction phases, making necessary adjustments to electrical plans based on budget constraints, design factors, or client requirements. The Global Facilities Project areas encompass on-site energy and power, healthcare facilities, manufacturing facilities, data centers, mission-critical facilities, food and consumer products manufacturing facilities, and commercial architecture. The design responsibilities include creating power distribution systems, instrumentation and controls, voice/data networks, fiber optics, security systems, and fire alarm systems. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will assist in the electrical design of projects from the conceptual phase through to design completion. This includes modifying and reviewing production drawings for various projects, such as power plants, process facilities, industrial facilities, healthcare facilities, airports, educational institutions, and governmental and military facilities. The role also involves designing electrical components that meet the project needs and requirements set by project managers. In addition, the Assistant Electrical Engineer will apply their foundational knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the electrical engineering services industry. They will assist in research and compile project-related data as required by project managers, correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers, and ensure that corrections are made within multiple CAD-related software. The position also includes assisting with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration for various facility designs. Field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients may also be part of the responsibilities. The Assistant Electrical Engineer will perform other duties as assigned and must comply with all company policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in creating designs for various facilities including power, healthcare, and industrial projects.
  • Work with project teams throughout the design and construction process, adapting electrical plans as needed.
  • Assist in the electrical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects.
  • Design electrical components based on project needs and requirements set by project managers.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures in the engineering services industry.
  • Research and compile project-related data as required by project managers.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using CAD software.
  • Assist with client presentations, shop drawing reviews, and contract administration.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program required.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in standard electrical engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills including electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA), AutoCAD, BIM (e.g., Revit and Tekla).
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to collaborate effectively.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
  • Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
