About the position

The Assistant Electrical Engineer in the Transmission & Distribution group at Burns & McDonnell will support the planning and design of electrical transmission projects, including substation design and renewable power integration. This role involves assisting project teams in creating designs for various facilities, adapting plans based on budget and client needs, and ensuring compliance with electrical engineering standards throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Assist project teams in creating designs for electrical transmission projects.
  • Modify and review production drawings for various facilities including power plants and healthcare facilities.
  • Design electrical components based on project requirements set by project managers.
  • Conduct research and compile project-related data as required.
  • Correct and update drawings provided by senior engineers using CAD software.
  • Assist in client presentations and contract administration for design projects.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam is preferred.
  • Prior internship or related consulting experience is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of standard electrical engineering techniques and principles.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and electrical analysis programs (e.g., RISA).
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Tekla.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Engineers in Training (EIT) Certification preferred.
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 strongly preferred.
  • Involvement in campus or community activities preferred.
