About the position

The Assistant Elementary School Principal plays a crucial role in supporting the Principal in leading and managing the educational program of an elementary school. This position focuses on promoting student achievement, developing educational programs, and enhancing staff professional development while ensuring compliance with Board of Education policies and regulations. The Assistant Principal will also step in as Principal when necessary, contributing to a safe and engaging school environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development, implementation, and monitoring of school programs consistent with school and district vision and goals.
  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to staff regarding the evaluation and continuous improvement of instruction and educational programs.
  • Promote a school-wide climate and culture that is safe and conducive to engaging instruction and rigorous curriculum development.
  • Ensure that Board of Education procedures are implemented and followed at the school level, including special education mandates.
  • Develop professional knowledge and share expertise with staff to improve instruction through seminars and workshops.
  • Encourage staff to grow professionally and experiment with emerging practices and research-based strategies.
  • Collaborate with school staff and district leaders to develop, implement, and monitor instructional programs and current teaching practices.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to meet student needs.
  • Promote differentiation of instruction and support the use of evidence-based tiered intervention.
  • Assist in recruiting and identifying highly-talented employees and maintaining employee personnel files.
  • Involve staff in the improvement of high-quality programs and exemplary instruction through evaluation processes.
  • Encourage meaningful family and community involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with families.
  • Supervise and evaluate teaching staff and other building employees according to the district's evaluation plan.
  • Assist in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school.

Requirements

  • Valid CT State Certification (092) Teaching Certification in a related area (i.e., Elementary School or subject area and grade level).
  • Bachelor's and Master's Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in School Administration.
  • Extensive successful teaching experience, preferably at the Elementary School level, and in more than one grade level.
  • Successful experience as an administrator preferred.
  • Must pass all federal and local background checks.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Sixth year, doctorate, or other planned program in a related field preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $107,923 - $124,810 per year.
  • 207 work days including 186 teacher work days plus 21 additional days.
