About the position

The Assistant Engineer (Civil & Construction) position at the New York Office of General Services involves supervising and inspecting building construction projects of moderate size and complexity. The role requires coordinating the operations of contractors to ensure conformity with contract estimates, specifications, standards, and construction practices. The Assistant Engineer will assist higher-level staff on larger projects, recommend and prepare contract change orders, and may supervise consultant work. Additional duties may be assigned, and some travel may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and inspect building construction projects of moderate size and complexity.
  • Coordinate the operations of contractors and ensure conformity of work to contract estimates, specifications, standards and construction practices.
  • Assist higher level staff on larger projects.
  • Recommend and prepare contract change orders.
  • May supervise consultant work.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Some travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) exam.
  • A bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology, or one year of full-time qualifying experience related to construction project supervision.
