About the position

The Assistant Engineer (Civil) position at the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation involves providing engineering services related to the design and construction of various infrastructure projects. This role is part of the NY HELPS program, aimed at facilitating employment in engineering roles within the state. The position requires a combination of technical expertise, project oversight, and the ability to supervise technicians, ensuring that all work adheres to established engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services including consultation, evaluation, planning, systems design, engineering surveys, or project oversight.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of technicians in projects within the engineering specialty.
  • Oversee the construction, extension, alteration, remodeling, and maintenance of roads, buildings, and public and private water and sewer systems.
  • Monitor public health regulations and water systems, electrical and power supply systems, and fire protection systems.
  • Manage large structures including major roads, environmental remediation systems, and bridges.

Requirements

  • Proof of passing the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field.
  • OR proof of passing the NCEES FE Examination AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience in relevant areas.
  • Experience in the design and construction of parks, roads, bridges, recreational facilities, and water/wastewater treatment facilities.
