About the position

The Assistant Engineer (Civil) position within the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation involves providing engineering services related to the design and construction of various infrastructure projects. This role is part of the NY HELPS program, which allows for non-competitive appointments for eligible candidates. The position requires a strong foundation in civil engineering principles and the ability to oversee projects ensuring compliance with engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services including consultation, evaluation, planning, systems design, and project oversight.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of technicians in projects within the engineering specialty.
  • Ensure work conforms to accepted engineering standards in the construction, extension, alteration, remodeling, and maintenance of roads, buildings, and public utilities.
  • Monitor public health regulations and water systems, including electrical and power supply systems, fire protection systems, and large structures.

Requirements

  • Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND a qualifying bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related fields.
  • Proof of passing the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering Examination (FE) AND one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience in relevant fields.
