About the position

The Assistant Facility Manager will oversee and coordinate daily activities within the animal facility, ensuring compliance with existing SOPs and quality assurance standards. This role involves managing staff schedules, maintaining equipment, and providing support for husbandry operations. The position requires interaction with various stakeholders to address inquiries and ensure the health and well-being of the animals in care.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and coordinate daily activities of the animal facility, including staff scheduling.
• Operate and maintain equipment and supplies.
• Manage husbandry support, including paperwork and cage change scheduling.
• Interact with Project Officers, veterinarians, and investigators to address requests and complaints.
• Ensure compliance with the Statement of Work for all tasks performed.
• Participate in interviewing applicants and developing performance improvement plans.
• Conduct daily clinical observations and preliminary health exams of sick animals.
• Oversee the animal surveillance program related to husbandry staff.
• Provide technical support for animal handling and research procedures as needed.
• Ensure quality assurance in animal health surveillance and facility sanitation procedures.
• Generate reports and maintain records for facility monitoring and management.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Minimum of four years' experience in an animal facility, with at least two years in a supervisory role.
• Experience with rodents and rabbits is required.
• Current AALAS certification at the LAT level; must achieve LATG within one year of eligibility.
