About the position

The Assistant Federal Security Director - Inspection at the Department of Homeland Security plays a crucial role in safeguarding the American transportation infrastructure. This position involves overseeing transportation security inspections, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and protecting the public from potential threats. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, supervisory skills, and the ability to respond to security incidents effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Planning, developing, implementing, administering, and evaluating transportation inspection programs for compliance under Title 49 CFR Part 1500 series.
  • Serving as a technical expert to the Federal Security Director and stakeholders on compliance and enforcement programs.
  • Administering compliance enforcement programs to protect the public from air transportation piracy and sabotage.
  • Supervising and mentoring a team of Transportation Security Inspectors (TSIs) in multiple specialties.
  • Conducting inspections of regulated parties including airports and aircraft operators to determine security posture and compliance.
  • Monitoring TSI compliance with laws and regulations to identify potential issues.
  • Performing technical reviews and making recommendations regarding security measures.
  • Identifying and responding to security violations or potential violations.
  • Responding to transportation security incidents as directed by the Federal Security Director.
  • Preparing enforcement investigation reports and recommending actions to TSA counsel.
  • Entering and reviewing data related to investigations and inspections in the national database.
  • Coordinating evaluations of new technology and security processes to ensure operational effectiveness.
  • Preparing written analyses of inspections and assessments.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Must pass pre-employment drug screening and random drug/alcohol testing.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
  • Availability for 'on call' work and various shifts, including uncommon tours of duty.
  • Successful completion of the Basic Transportation Security Inspections course.
  • Satisfactory completion of a one-year supervisory trial period.
