About the position

The Assistant Federal Security Director-Inspections at the Department of Homeland Security plays a crucial role in safeguarding the American transportation infrastructure. This position involves overseeing transportation security inspections at Louis Armstrong International Airport, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and protecting the public from potential threats. The role requires a combination of technical expertise, supervisory skills, and the ability to respond to security incidents effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, implement, administer, and evaluate critical transportation inspections programs for compliance.
  • Serve as a technical expert to the Federal Security Director and staff on compliance and enforcement programs.
  • Administer compliance enforcement programs to protect the public from air transportation piracy and sabotage.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of Transportation Security Inspectors in multiple specialties.
  • Conduct and supervise inspections of regulated parties including airports and aircraft operators.
  • Monitor compliance with applicable laws and security policies to identify potential issues.
  • Perform technical reviews and analyze security measures for effectiveness.
  • Respond to transportation security incidents and determine necessary enforcement actions.
  • Prepare and review investigation reports and recommend actions to TSA counsel.
  • Coordinate evaluations of new technology and security processes for operational effectiveness.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • Availability for 'on call' work and various shifts.
  • Successful completion of the Basic Transportation Security Inspections course.
  • One year of specialized experience equivalent to SV-I or GS-13 in the Federal service.
