About the position

The Assistant Field Manager (AFM) plays a crucial role in overseeing the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) programs within the Northwest Oregon District, specifically in Salem and Springfield, OR. This position involves providing leadership, supervision, and guidance to both permanent and seasonal staff, assisting the Field Manager in implementing resource management strategies, and ensuring effective team collaboration to achieve organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direction in all phases of BLM programs and work responsibilities.
  • Supervise and lead permanent and seasonal staff, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Assist the Field Manager in decision-making and implementation of resource management strategies.
  • Develop plans and work schedules in collaboration with employees, setting priorities for task completion.
  • Monitor team performance to ensure effective and efficient task completion.
  • Facilitate good working relationships and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Resolve conflicts between teams and individual team members using conflict resolution techniques.
  • Assign work based on employee capabilities and priorities, reviewing work for compliance and accuracy.
  • Maintain record-keeping systems for production and reporting purposes.
  • Recommend changes to improve organizational procedures and productivity.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • One year of specialized experience comparable to the GS-11 level in the Federal service, including administrative duties for subordinate employees, resource management, and conflict resolution.
  • Ability to coordinate with various government officials and stakeholders.
  • Strong oral communication skills for presenting information to internal and external audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conservation and management of natural and cultural resources.
  • Familiarity with federal land management policies and practices.
