About the position

The Assistant Finance Director at the Town of Lantana plays a crucial role in supporting the Finance Director by overseeing finance operations, including cash management, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and general ledger functions. This position involves directing and supervising finance staff, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, and assisting in the preparation of financial reports and budgets. The Assistant Finance Director also manages grant activities and participates in the annual audit process, contributing to the financial integrity of the Town.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise finance operations including cash receipts, A/R, A/P, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Administer daily operations through direction and guidance of accounting and clerical staff.
  • Perform personnel management functions such as selection, training, guidance, coaching, and disciplinary action.
  • Reconcile monthly payroll and operating bank statements, investment account statements, and prepare related journal entries.
  • Provide approval or secondary approval of various functions within the Finance Department.
  • Prepare journal entries for electronic transfers of revenues, debt payments, and other payments.
  • Monitor grant activity for all departments and manage billing of grants in the Accounts Receivable system.
  • Participate in the preparation of the departments and the Town's annual budget.
  • Assist with the Town's annual independent audit and manage audit fieldwork.
  • Prepare the Town's Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and ensure timely filing of the Annual Financial Report (AFR).
  • Provide advice and assistance to department directors on accounting policies and finance-related inquiries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Experience in local government and/or a finance-related field; CPA/CGFO/CPFO preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or similar software programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of current municipal accounting practices.
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written directions and prepare complex financial reports.
  • Ability to conduct research, analyze and organize data, and work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of CentralSquare (formerly known as Superion) NaviLine is preferred.
