About the position

The Assistant Financial Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This position involves a variety of general accounting functions, including leading the financial operations, assisting in accounts payable, and managing fixed asset reporting. The Assistant Financial Controller will report directly to the Financial Controller and will be responsible for applying general principles of accounting, reviewing and analyzing financial information, and preparing comprehensive financial reports. Key responsibilities include maintaining the accuracy of the System's financial statements and general ledger accounts, ensuring timely completion and review of significant balance sheet and income statement account reconciliations and audits. The role also encompasses managing the month-end close process, which involves developing and maintaining a monthly closing calendar, monitoring departmental activities to meet closing deadlines, and analyzing significant accounts. The Assistant Financial Controller will communicate month-end financial results, including the Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Capital Spending Summaries, and Financial Ratios and Statistics. In addition, the Assistant Financial Controller will be responsible for the annual financial audit, coordinating interim and annual audit fieldwork, preparing workpapers, and ensuring accurate financial reporting and footnote disclosures. The position also requires the completion of external reports to comply with governmental reporting requirements, including Medicare and Medicaid cost reports and IRS tax returns. The Assistant Financial Controller will develop and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with established procedures and safeguard the System's financial assets. The role includes governance financial reporting, ensuring accurate and timely completion of financial reports for various presentations to the System's Boards and Committees. The Assistant Financial Controller will also manage treasury functions, acting as a liaison with banking institutions, approving ACH/Wire payments, and overseeing the treasury management process. Additional responsibilities include assisting with accounts payable workflows, overseeing joint ventures, reviewing capital expenditures, analyzing accounts receivable, and monitoring Medicare and Medicaid settlements.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall accuracy of the System's financial statements and general ledger accounts.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion and review of significant balance sheet & income statement account reconciliations and audits.
  • Responsible for the month-end close process, including developing/maintaining monthly closing calendar and monitoring departmental activities to assure closing deadlines are met.
  • Communicate month-end financial results including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Capital Spending Summaries, and Financial Ratios and Statistics.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of the System's annual independent financial statement audit.
  • Coordinate interim and annual audit fieldwork, workpaper preparation, review and analysis, confirmations, financial reporting and footnote disclosures.
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely completion of external reports to comply with various governmental reporting requirements and taxing authorities.
  • Develop and maintain internal controls to assure compliance with established procedures and the safeguarding of the System's financial assets.
  • Ensure accurate and timely completion of financial reports as required for various presentations to the System's related Boards and Committees.
  • Act as a liaison with banking institutions to ensure proper signers, users, etc. of banking related software/website.
  • Approve ACH/Wire payments and oversee the Treasury management process.
  • Responsible for review/preparation of bank reconciliations.
  • Assist with Accounts Payable approvals and workflow.
  • Responsible for oversight of Joint Ventures, including obtaining financial statements and analyzing results.
  • Assist with review of capital expenditures and ensuring that fixed assets are capitalized per the System's policies.
  • Responsible for monthly review and analysis of Accounts Receivable for all open AR balances in all systems.
  • Assist with the monitoring and analysis of Medicare & Medicaid settlements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of Accounting/Finance experience.
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • A valid driver's license is required (must obtain an Ohio driver's license within 30 days of residency).
  • Positive service-oriented interpersonal and communication skills required.
