About the position

The Assistant Fire Chief (Operations) at Amentum is responsible for managing and controlling one of three alternating 24-hour shifts, supervising firefighters during fire ground situations, and overseeing the care and maintenance of firefighting apparatus and equipment. This role involves ensuring compliance with fire safety regulations, conducting training, and serving as the Incident Commander during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Participates in the administration and planning of a comprehensive fire prevention and firefighting and rescue program.
  • Receives new regulations or procedures from the Fire Chief and disseminates information to subordinates.
  • Creates, maintains, and submits station logs and other records pertinent to reports and activities.
  • Prepares and executes assignments of personnel to specific duties and equipment.
  • Maintains current knowledge of the base, its structures, and fire protection systems.
  • Ensures designated tasks and firefighting duties are accomplished and documented as outlined in department plans and procedures.
  • Serves as Incident Commander of all emergencies unless relieved by a more senior officer.
  • Implements internal controls, self-inspection, and audit compliance.
  • Practices and enforces a sound safety management program.
  • Performs supervisory personnel management for assigned fire operations personnel.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • 10 years of progressive experience as a full-time firefighter with a regular professional paid firefighting force or equivalent experience.
  • At least five years of directly related experience as an Assistant Chief for Operations, including experience as an airport firefighter.
  • Possess all certifications required for an Assistant Chief for Operations according to DoD Manual 6055.06.
  • Certified as Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Airport Firefighter, and HazMat Incident Commander.
  • Trained and qualified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
  • No physical defects or grooming habits that impede the ability to wear protective clothing and perform strenuous tasks.
  • Submit to and pass an initial physical examination conforming to NFPA 1582 and pass the same examination annually thereafter.
  • Participate in a mandatory physical fitness program.
  • Possess a valid state driver's license, preferably licensed on all assigned fire apparatus and support vehicles.
  • Capable of attending and completing on- and off-site training courses and certifications required by the Air Force and company.
  • Able to obtain an Interim Security Clearance and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
