About the position

The position involves overseeing the daily operations of food and beverage services at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront. The role focuses on ensuring guest satisfaction, maintaining operational standards, and managing the budget effectively. It requires a hands-on approach to supervising staff and operations, particularly during evening shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the ordering of food and beverage supplies, cleaning supplies, and uniforms.
  • Supervises daily food and beverage shift operations and ensures compliance with all policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Supports and supervises an effective monthly self-inspection program.
  • Operates all department equipment as necessary and reports malfunctions.
  • Supervises staffing levels to meet guest service, operational needs, and financial objectives.
  • Encourages mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members.
  • Develops specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
  • Celebrates and fosters decisions that result in successes as well as failures.
  • Communicates areas needing attention to staff and follows up to ensure understanding.
  • Coordinates cleaning programs in all food and beverage areas, identifying trends and making recommendations for improvements.
  • Follows property-specific second effort and recovery plans.
  • Stays readily available and approachable for all team members.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the brand-specific service culture.
  • Provides services that exceed customer expectations for satisfaction and retention.
  • Serves as a role model to demonstrate appropriate behaviors.
  • Manages day-to-day operations, ensuring quality and standards meet customer expectations.
  • Takes proactive approaches when dealing with guest concerns.
  • Sets a positive example for guest relations.
  • Reviews comment cards and guest satisfaction results with employees.
  • Responds in a timely manner to customer service department requests.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with 3 years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or related professional area.
  • OR a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or related major with 1 year of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or related professional area.
