About the position

The Assistant Fund Controller is responsible for the day-to-day accounting support functions for a group of complex funds, working under minimal supervision. This role involves performing accounting and reporting tasks, including the setup and accounting for multi-tier investment entities, and preparing consolidated financial statements and client reports. The position requires oversight of fund-level reporting and coordination of client equity contributions and distributions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform intensive review of monthly property level reports.
  • Produce fund financial statements and other required financial information, including investor funded and unfunded commitments.
  • Maintain shareholder registries and prepare periodic financial statements.
  • Assist with audit and tax preparation and audit review.
  • Prepare investment and positions reconciliations and daily reconciliation of cash balances.
  • Perform periodic asset payment, cash, and corporate action reconciliations.
  • Post journal entries and money-movement transactions.
  • Ensure all fund transactions are properly posted to the accounting system.
  • Prepare and reconcile daily trial balances for assigned funds.
  • Update and monitor daily trading, general ledger activity, and pricing of funds to ensure accuracy of daily NAV calculation.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review periodic NAV calculations.
  • Participate in special projects including new fund setup and fund closure.
  • Prepare investor capital call/distribution notices.
  • Prepare IRR and performance reporting models.
  • Assist with security master and reporting setup.
  • Assist in the implementation and maintenance of the accounting systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Degree from a four-year college or university program with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or related field required.
  • A minimum of five years accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • Prior experience in fund level accounting preferred, especially with real estate accounting or fund accounting software systems.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) regulations required.
  • Intermediate analytical and quantitative skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA, CMA, or other relevant professional certifications are a plus.
