The Assistant General Counsel - Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) position at Kinder Morgan is a senior-level attorney role focused on providing legal expertise in EHS law. The position is based in Houston, Texas, but may also be located in Colorado Springs or Denver, Colorado; Birmingham, Alabama; or Tulsa, Oklahoma. The successful candidate will manage client relationships with EHS technical staff and EHS and Business Unit management, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and safety standards. This role involves representing the company in submittals and meetings with local, state, and federal environmental and safety agencies, as well as assisting commercial attorneys and litigators with EHS-related issues. The Assistant General Counsel will be responsible for managing and collaborating with outside counsel on EHS compliance and enforcement matters, including litigation related to the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental law, particularly in areas such as air, water, and soil regulations, and will be well-versed in federal environmental and safety laws, including the Clean Air Act (CAA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Clean Water Act (CWA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations. In addition to legal expertise, the role requires the ability to participate in emergency response efforts and lead high-profile incident investigations. The Assistant General Counsel will also manage outside counsel and work on legal issues associated with CERCLA sites and other remediation projects. This position offers a competitive salary range of $209,200 to $314,000 per year, along with a discretionary annual incentive plan, and is designed for an experienced attorney with at least seven years of direct experience in EHS legal matters.
