About the position

The Assistant General Counsel will provide strategic and tactical legal support to Vertex Pharmaceuticals' North America Commercial & Development Legal Group. This role involves advising on a wide range of legal matters related to the commercialization of prescription drugs, ensuring compliance with healthcare laws and regulations, and collaborating with various business units to advance the company's objectives while mitigating legal risks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert legal advice and counseling to business partners on commercial, medical, healthcare economic, and pipeline initiatives.
  • Advise on advertising and promotion strategies, including social media use and dissemination of scientific information.
  • Serve as a member of cross-functional teams, including the Global Commercialization Team and Medical Review Committee.
  • Stay updated on significant legal developments and communicate relevant changes to the organization.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on healthcare law and related business operations.
  • Collaborate with Compliance colleagues to develop and implement training on legal compliance for internal business partners.
  • Participate in Legal & Compliance Department projects and initiatives.

Requirements

  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Member of a state bar
  • 10+ years post-JD experience in the life sciences sector
  • Outstanding communication skills for conveying legal advice to both legal and non-legal audiences
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Subject matter expertise in FDA regulations and healthcare law
  • Experience supporting pre-commercial to commercial-stage products
  • Experience serving on promotional and medical review committees.
