About the position

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a crucial role in supporting the General Manager (GM) and is jointly responsible for the overall success of the restaurant, ensuring it aligns with Frisch's vision of being the "Best Place to Work, Eat and Own". The AGM is tasked with the training and development of employees, which is essential for achieving the company's goals. This position is accountable for various operational aspects, including cost control, inventory management, and assisting the GM in preparing forecasts, schedules, and budgets. The AGM must embody and convey Frisch's culture to the staff, demonstrating pride in the brand. As the AGM continues to grow within the role, there is potential for advancement into an open GM position. Key responsibilities include overseeing restaurant operations, ensuring an outstanding experience for both employees and customers. The AGM must monitor all aspects of the restaurant, taking immediate corrective action when necessary, and ensuring that all team members and equipment meet established standards. The AGM is also responsible for maintaining cash controls and adhering to cash handling procedures. Additionally, the AGM will assist in promoting the brand and growing sales through effective marketing strategies. Staffing is another critical area of responsibility. The AGM will work closely with the GM to recruit and train the best team members, ensuring optimal customer service. In the absence of the GM, the AGM will review and monitor weekly schedules prepared by the Restaurant Managers (RMs) to maintain appropriate staffing levels. Training, coaching, and mentoring are vital components of the AGM's role. The AGM must lead with integrity, focusing on the company's vision and goals while fostering the growth and development of team members. This includes mentoring RMs to enhance their management skills and ensuring that all employees are trained to exceed customer expectations. Health and safety are paramount in this role. The AGM will work with the GM and other managers to enforce policies and procedures that ensure a safe and professional environment for both customers and employees. This includes training staff in food safety procedures and maintaining cleanliness and safety in all work areas. The AGM is expected to report any equipment issues or safety concerns promptly, ensuring that the restaurant operates smoothly and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Support the GM in managing the restaurant and assume GM responsibilities in their absence.
  • Foster an environment that provides outstanding internal and external customer experiences.
  • Monitor full restaurant operations and initiate corrective actions when necessary.
  • Ensure product availability through systematic ordering and address concerns with the GM.
  • Maintain cash controls by adhering to cash handling and reconciliation procedures.
  • Promote and publicize the brand to grow sales and customer counts.
  • Assist the GM with preparing forecasts, schedules, and budgets.
  • Monitor sales against expectations and provide recommendations for growth.
  • Assist in staffing the unit with the best team for optimal customer service.
  • Mentor RMs to enhance recruiting and interviewing skills for sound hiring recommendations.
  • Review and monitor weekly schedules prepared by RMs for appropriate staffing levels.
  • Lead the restaurant with integrity and promote the company's vision and goals.
  • Identify and develop team members while mentoring RMs to grow their management skills.
  • Administer corrective actions for policy violations under GM's guidance.
  • Train and monitor employees in food safety procedures and ensure compliance with health regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in all work areas and report any issues promptly.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and 6 months of operations management experience in the restaurant industry, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One year of Frisch's experience preferred.
  • ServSafe Certified.
  • Must be able to speak English and possess good communication skills.
  • Ability to train, motivate, evaluate, coach, delegate, and supervise staff.
  • Strong math and organizational skills, with the ability to read, write, and follow recipes accurately.
  • Access to reliable transportation is required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, handle stress, and manage irate customers professionally.
