About the position

The Assistant General Manager will coordinate the day-to-day activities of the Events Department under the supervision of the General Manager. This role involves overseeing various venue department heads, ensuring operational efficiency, maximizing profits, and delivering exceptional customer service. The Assistant General Manager will also provide support to Capitol Federal Amphitheater as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Implement facility policies and goals in accordance with the management contract, client's objectives, and corporate policy.
  • Meet with department heads to review activity, operating, and sales reports, determining necessary changes and overseeing implementation.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers, promoters, and tenants for activities and services at the facility.
  • Assign event leads and Manager on Duty, distributing the monthly event calendar.
  • Supervise and train Event staff to ensure successful event coordination activities.
  • Prepare the Event Services department budget and CIP requests.
  • Attend director meetings and conduct production, weekly department, and event security meetings to discuss procedures and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with codes, laws, ordinances, and safety procedures, developing training programs for employees on fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of service agreements for event staffing and other necessary services, reviewing contracts for compliance.
  • Act as a liaison between IATSE and the venue, assisting in contract negotiations.
  • Assist in developing long-range plans and program objectives in line with corporate policy.
  • Implement procedures to maintain customer service standards and generate repeat business.
  • Assist in preparing the annual budget and capital project budget for facility improvements.
  • Organize and lead community events and training for staff on First Aid/CPR/AED and emergency procedures.
  • Lead venue security committee and participate in safety committee activities.
  • Schedule and coordinate K-9 units for bomb detection sweeps as requested.
  • Conduct post-event operational and financial reviews and analyses.
  • Coordinate personnel development/training and safety/emergency procedures.
  • Work extended and/or irregular hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Support ASM Global at Capitol Federal Amphitheater with event-related tasks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum five to seven years of industry experience, with three years as a director in an arena, convention center, or stadium, or equivalent experience.
  • Skills and experience in contract negotiation, business law, labor relations, and supervising personnel.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to anticipate problems and implement corrective actions.
  • Considerable knowledge of safety regulations and federal, state, or local laws.
  • Strong customer service orientation for the entertainment industry.
  • Effective supervisory skills and ability to resolve personnel issues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficient with or ability to learn AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of facility operating standards and building maintenance.
