About the position

The Assistant General Manager (AGM) plays a crucial role in the operation of the hotel, particularly during the evening shift and in the absence of the property manager. This position is responsible for ensuring that the hotel operates according to brand standards and company policies, while also serving as the first point of contact for guests. The AGM oversees front desk operations, guest relations, and staff management, ensuring a high level of customer service and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the work of hotel staff and ensure effective front desk operations.
  • Inspect rooms to ensure they are rent-ready and check common areas for cleanliness.
  • Register arriving guests, take payments, assign rooms, and answer guest inquiries.
  • Handle guest complaints and incidents, including emergencies and safety issues.
  • Monitor finances at the front desk, ensuring accurate cash drops and deposits.
  • Conduct property walks and meet with the General Manager to identify issues at the start of each shift.
  • Coordinate with housekeeping and maintenance staff to resolve guest-reported problems.
  • Provide daily supervision and training to staff, ensuring adherence to safety rules and PPE usage.
  • Interview and recommend candidates for hiring, and assist in the orientation and training of new employees.

Requirements

  • Experience in hotel management or a similar role.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to handle guest complaints effectively.
  • Knowledge of hotel operations and brand standards.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff effectively.
  • Strong financial acumen, particularly in cash handling and reporting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in a leadership role within the hospitality industry.
  • Familiarity with hotel management software and reservation systems.
