About the position

The Assistant General Manager is responsible for driving hotel profitability through effective revenue generation, cost control, and guest satisfaction while fostering employee development and maintaining hotel integrity. This role involves active participation in sales efforts, financial reviews, and ensuring compliance with hotel standards and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Play a pivotal role in hotel sales efforts, including calling on top ten accounts and meeting clients.
  • Conduct weekly staff meetings and training sessions according to Highgate Hotel standards.
  • Meet all financial review dates and corporate directed programs in a timely fashion.
  • Hold monthly financial reviews with department managers and supervisors.
  • Ensure department heads maintain budgeted productivity levels and accounting procedures.
  • Develop managers for future advancement through training programs.
  • Participate in required M.O.D. coverage as scheduled.
  • Maintain direct contact with management trainees and monitor their development.
  • Oversee the hotel budget process as required.
  • Ensure training in service standards is taking place in each department.
  • Inspect rooms regularly with the Housekeeping Manager and Property Engineer.
  • Ensure complete processing of invoices daily using the A/P process.
  • Ensure all financial documents are received by the Corporate Office monthly.
  • Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of the physical property through inspections and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensure employees are attentive, friendly, courteous, and efficient in their interactions with guests and staff.
  • Forecast the hotel's financial position by estimating revenues and expenses.
  • Prepare and conduct management interviews and follow hiring procedures.
  • Perform performance appraisals for Executive Committee members and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Motivate, coach, counsel, and discipline management personnel according to standards.
  • Meet clients on the property to assist in the sales effort.
  • Be present in public areas during peak times to greet guests and offer assistance.
  • Ensure procedures for handling the hotel safe are followed and monthly audits occur.
  • Conduct monthly credit meetings and take an active role in hotel credit and collection policies.

Requirements

  • At least 5-6 years progressive experience in a hotel.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Effective problem-solving skills, including anticipating and identifying issues.
