About the position

The Assistant General Manager at Backyard Grill & Catering is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the restaurant, ensuring high standards of food quality and guest service, managing staff, and optimizing financial performance. This role involves making critical decisions regarding restaurant management, inventory control, and compliance with health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage daily operations of the restaurant and make final decisions on important matters.
  • Adhere to company standards to increase sales and minimize costs.
  • Complete financial and personnel-related administrative duties accurately and on time.
  • Enforce sanitary practices for food handling and maintain cleanliness in kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards and local laws.
  • Maintain a professional restaurant image and ensure high quality of food preparation and service.
  • Estimate food and beverage costs and supervise portion control to minimize waste.
  • Place orders with distributors and schedule deliveries of food and supplies.
  • Ensure positive guest service and respond to complaints effectively.
  • Implement security procedures to protect employees and guests.
  • Manage shifts, including scheduling and planning while upholding standards.
  • Direct hiring, supervision, and development of employees, including conducting performance reviews.

Requirements

  • Restaurant experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • ServSafe certification (preferred but not required)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and lead a team
