About the position

The Assistant General Manager at Bear's Smokehouse in Hartford, CT, plays a crucial role in overseeing daily restaurant operations, focusing on profitability through effective management of staff, food production, guest service, and compliance with health regulations. This position serves as the primary contact for staff and district administration in the absence of the General Manager, ensuring smooth operations and adherence to company policies.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the delegation and oversight of key restaurant functions and tasks to management members.
  • Manage Profit and Loss/Profitability by following cash control and security procedures, maintaining inventory, and reviewing financial reports.
  • Participate in all period end reviews and assist in the verification and approval of daily sales summaries.
  • Serve as point of contact for Ownership and Corporate offices in the absence of the General Manager.
  • Ensure building maintenance and compliance with health and liquor licenses.
  • Enforce company policies and develop corrective action plans for improvement.
  • Maintain restaurant cleanliness and general appearance through daily inspections.
  • Assist in the coordination of FOH, BOH, and Catering operations to meet business objectives.
  • Monitor restaurant technology and organizational systems/procedures.
  • Directly perform hands-on work to respond to business needs and train staff.
  • Assist in recruitment, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and training of staff.
  • Participate in performance reviews of management staff and assist in managing staff performance.
  • Maintain and improve guest satisfaction by monitoring staff interactions and food quality.
  • Assist in planning marketing strategies and community engagement efforts.

Requirements

  • 1 year of Assistant Manager experience at any Bear's Restaurant Group location
  • High school diploma or GED
  • ServSafe certification or ability to obtain within one month of hire
  • Prior restaurant management experience (5 years preferred)
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lift up to 70lbs constantly
  • Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation

  • Strong catering/to-go and events background
  • Experience managing beer, wine, and liquor
  • Knowledge of financial statements including P&L and labor reports
  • Advanced computer skills including Excel and Google Docs
