About the position

The Assistant Geologist/Geologist Trainee positions are responsible for managing state-funded and privately funded remedial programs across various sites in New York State. The role involves overseeing project phases including site investigation and remediation, ensuring compliance with state policies, and interacting with various stakeholders. Candidates will be expected to manage multiple projects while addressing technical and administrative needs, with a focus on environmental remediation.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as project managers overseeing state-funded and privately funded remedial programs.
  • Manage various project phases including site investigation and remediation.
  • Review site documentation, workplans, and reports for compliance with New York State policies and regulations.
  • Interact with remedial parties, property owners, and the public.
  • Coordinate with governmental agencies and municipal leadership.
  • Oversee remediation sites, remedial consultants, and contractors.
  • Evaluate site conditions and data to assess contamination.
  • Select and implement remedial alternatives and designs.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of selected remedies.
  • Manage multiple projects while prioritizing workload.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in earth science, engineering geology, environmental geology, environmental geosciences, geochemistry, geological engineering, geology, geological science, geophysics, or hydrogeology.
  • For Assistant Geologist: proof of passing the ASBOG Fundamentals of Geology examination or a professional geologist licensure with current registration.
  • Must complete a minimum of one year of successful performance as a Geologist Trainee and pass the FG examination to advance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Geographic Information System (GIS) - based software.
