About the position
The Assistant Grocery Manager at Weis Markets is responsible for overseeing the operations of the grocery department, ensuring excellent customer service, managing inventory, and training associates. This role involves stepping in for the Grocery Manager when needed and may also include taking charge of total store operations in their absence. The position emphasizes teamwork, continuous improvement, and adherence to company guidelines and health standards.
Responsibilities
- Assists Grocery Manager in overseeing all aspects of Grocery department operations.
- Performs duties of Grocery Manager in their absence.
- Promotes excellent customer relations by instilling positive customer-focused behavior with associates.
- Manages inventory levels and reviews orders to ensure product quantities meet customer demand.
- Maintains backroom organization and product storage within company guidelines.
- Oversees shelf replenishment efforts to ensure product availability for customers.
- Assists in training associates, provides coaching and feedback, and evaluates work.
- Develops and implements merchandising plans and communicates with other departments.
- Maintains backroom and receiving area security and organization by promoting 5S procedures.
- Controls expenses including payroll within budgeted expectations.
- Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Minimum (2) years' experience in management of retail/supermarket environment.
- Associate or bachelor's degree in business related field desirable.
