About the position

The Assistant Health System Administrator (AHSA) plays a crucial role in overseeing the daily operations of the Health Services Department within the Bureau of Prisons. This position involves managing a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of medical, dental, and allied health services to the inmate population. The AHSA collaborates with the Health System Administrator and Clinical Director to implement healthcare initiatives, monitor budgets, and maintain compliance with healthcare standards, all while ensuring the security of the institution.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Health Services Department.
  • Manage and direct activities of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare professionals.
  • Initiate and develop schedules for accomplishing the healthcare mission of the institution.
  • Assist in monitoring the annual budget for medical services and coordinate purchases and contracts.
  • Implement the Bureau's re-entry initiatives, including timely data entry and evaluation of health status.
  • Organize training for medical personnel according to BOP medical program standards and ACA standards.
  • Maintain security of the institution as a primary responsibility.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields; OR 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education; OR LL.M. if related.
  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service, involving analytical or administrative management in healthcare.
  • Knowledge of healthcare delivery systems, regulations, and standards from various regulatory and credentialing groups.
  • Management ability to delegate authority, evaluate, and oversee people and programs.
