About the position

The Assistant Hospitality Sales Manager (AHSM) at Sterling Vineyards is a pivotal role that combines leadership, guest interaction, and financial management within a renowned winery in Napa Valley. This position is responsible for overseeing the Welcome Center and the gondola operations, ensuring that guests have a seamless and enjoyable experience from arrival to departure. The AHSM will lead a team dedicated to enhancing the guest experience while driving revenue through ticket and wine sales. This role requires a strong focus on five key areas: Financials, Guest Experience, People Management, Site Operations, and the Welcome Center & Gondola. The AHSM will be instrumental in achieving financial targets and enhancing the overall guest experience, making it a critical position in the winery's operations. In this role, the AHSM will be expected to inspire and manage a team of over 15 employees, ensuring that they are motivated and equipped to deliver exceptional service. The position demands a proactive approach to leadership, with a focus on coaching and developing team members to meet sales goals. The AHSM will also be responsible for managing the ticket booth sales and coordinating wine order pickups, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in direct-to-consumer wine sales and guest service, with a proven track record of generating sales and leading teams effectively. The Assistant Hospitality Sales Manager will also play a key role in the re-opening of Sterling Vineyards, which has recently undergone significant renovations following the Glass Fire. This presents a unique opportunity to shape the guest experience in a newly designed environment, making it an exciting time to join the team. The AHSM will be expected to work flexible shifts, including weekends and holidays, and will have the chance to build a career across multiple functions within the company, supported by structured development programs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all guest interactions at the Welcome Center and gondola operations.
  • Drive revenue through ticket and wine sales in the Welcome Center.
  • Lead and inspire a team of over 15 employees to achieve sales targets.
  • Manage financial deliverables and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate guest arrival and departure experiences, including gondola use and wine order pickups.

Requirements

  • At least four years of direct-to-consumer wine sales and/or guest service experience.
  • Proven track record of generating direct-to-consumer sales and leading a sales team.
  • Experience in coaching and managing teams of more than 15 employees.
  • Strong computer skills, particularly in Microsoft Office suite.
  • Self-motivated, highly organized, and able to work with minimal direction.
  • Strong written, verbal, and organizational skills in English.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and consumers.
  • Knowledge of the Napa Valley area and the food and wine market.
  • Understanding of wine and winemaking processes.
  • Must be able to lift 40 pounds and be at least 21 years of age.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in hospitality management.
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems and sales software.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role within a winery or similar environment.
