About the position

The Assistant in Research position at Florida State University involves working with the cryogenics and superconducting linear accelerator at the John D. Fox accelerator laboratory. The role focuses on mastering various components of a unique accelerator facility, performing complex technical procedures related to setup, maintenance, and new developments. The successful candidate will be integral to significant upgrades in the cryogenic facility, including the installation of a helium recovery system and a new turbine LHE refrigerator, providing opportunities to develop innovative solutions with advanced cryogenic systems and accelerators.

Responsibilities

  • Operate the liquid-Helium (LHE) refrigerator facility, optimizing Helium production.
  • Monitor and correct alarm conditions in the cryogenic systems.
  • Perform maintenance on the superconducting linear accelerator systems.
  • Participate in significant upgrades to the cryogenic facility, including the installation of new systems.

Requirements

  • Academic master's degree or highest-level terminal degree in Experimental Physics, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
  • Equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and demonstrated ability to perform required duties.
