About the position

The Assistant Infant & Toddler Floater Teacher plays a crucial role in supporting the development of infants and toddlers in a nurturing educational environment. This position involves providing responsive caregiving, ensuring safety, and promoting social, emotional, physical, cognitive, and linguistic growth. The Floater Teacher is flexible and assigned to different classrooms as needed, fostering strong relationships with families and supporting parent-child interactions essential for children's development and school readiness.

Responsibilities

  • Support teachers in promoting the development of infants and toddlers.
  • Ensure learning environments are nurturing and well-organized.
  • Build strong relationships with families to support children's development.
  • Provide breaks for teaching staff as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Maintain a healthy and safe indoor and outdoor environment for children.
  • Conduct daily health and safety monitoring of playgrounds.
  • Report signs of illness or unusual behavior in children to teachers or family advocates.
  • Follow mandated reporting processes for suspected child abuse or neglect.
  • Keep classrooms and storage areas neat and clutter-free.
  • Create a pleasant atmosphere that respects children's ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
  • Assist in implementing curriculum and teaching experiences when covering teacher breaks.
  • Promote parental engagement and model appropriate behavior and guidance techniques.
  • Assist with food services and classroom needs as requested.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and professional development activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Valid Driver's License and personal vehicle with liability insurance.
  • Child Development Associate (CDA) credential in Infant and Toddler (preferred).
  • Minimum two years of experience in a childcare or preschool setting.
  • Knowledge of Head Start Performance Standards (preferred).
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (preferred).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with infants and toddlers in a childcare setting.
  • Knowledge of child development principles and practices.
