About the position

The Assistant General Counsel I position at the Department of Family & Medical Leave (DFML) in Boston, Massachusetts, involves providing legal counsel and support to the agency. Responsibilities

  • Advise DFML staff and EOLWD on law and policy affecting DFML.
  • Conduct research, draft written analyses, and develop policies related to the PFML law.
  • Translate law and policy into actionable requirements for program implementation.
  • Serve as Keeper of Records and Records Access Officer for DFML.
  • Research, draft, interpret, and amend agency regulations and policies.
  • Engage in contract review, drafting, negotiation, and compliance.
  • Analyze communication materials for legal compliance.
  • Represent the department in public meetings and hearings.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate Degree
  • Membership in good standing with the Massachusetts Bar
  • Experience in contract management, especially in technology or call center sectors
  • Ability to communicate complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences
  • Strong problem-resolution skills and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Excellent writing skills and ability to work under time constraints
  • Experience in project management or supervisory roles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in public sector legal work
  • Familiarity with the Paid Family & Medical Leave program
  • Knowledge of data security and protection compliance.
