About the position

Heart of the House, an employee-owned, award-winning hospitality company, is seeking an Assistant Maintenance Technician to ensure the good condition and functionality of our premises. This role involves assisting the lead Maintenance Engineer with various maintenance tasks and responsibilities. The ideal candidate will be proactive in maintaining the facilities and will have a strong understanding of mechanical systems, plumbing, and electrical work. You will be responsible for surveying buildings and repairing mechanical systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. As an Assistant Maintenance Technician, you will need to have experience in plumbing and electricity, as well as the ability to plan and execute routine maintenance activities. You will also be expected to respond to troubleshooting requests and address unexpected equipment issues. Your duties will include performing maintenance on electrical systems, such as replacing light bulbs and sockets, cleaning and repairing circuit breaker panels, and maintaining heating and plumbing systems to ensure their functionality. Additionally, you will inspect alarm systems, schedule repairs when necessary, and conduct manual repairs, such as fixing locks and replacing windows. General upkeep procedures and other tasks may also be assigned as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Survey buildings and repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards.
  • Assist the lead Maintenance Engineer with assigned duties.
  • Plan and execute routine maintenance activities.
  • Respond to troubleshooting requests and unexpected equipment issues.
  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems, including replacing light bulbs and sockets, and cleaning and repairing circuit breaker panels.
  • Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure functionality.
  • Inspect alarm systems (fire, protection) and schedule repairs when needed.
  • Perform manual repairs when necessary, such as fixing locks and replacing windows.
  • Conduct general upkeep procedures and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be bilingual!
  • Proven experience as a maintenance technician.
  • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic, and other systems.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
  • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances, and devices.
  • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
  • Good physical condition and strength.
